Update: Cedar Falls home burns

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

A Cedar Falls family of five is pushed from their home before Thanksgiving all because of a fire.

Neighbors say they heard and saw the fire, and they're happy everyone was able to get out all right.

Cedar Falls responded to the house fire after 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, and they say they saw heavy flames coming from the home's roof.

"And, we're told it started from a wood-burning stove," witness, Chelsea Steil said.

Chelsea captured the video on her cellphone across the street while visiting family for Thanksgiving.

Chelsea said even though the house is damaged, she's happy the family of five was able to get out safely and spend Thanksgiving together.

"Everybody got out, and everybody was safe. That's awesome. That's like the best case scenario for something like that," Chelsea said.

The displaced family is now staying with relatives two doors down from their home.

They were busy salvaging what's left of their property inside, while trying to embrace the Thanksgiving spirit.

"We always have tons of food here, so my mom was like 'they can always come over to our place.' The neighbors are really good around here. So, I know they would be taken in with whoever," Chelsea said.

The mother of five said she didn't want to be interviewed Thursday, after she had surgery done earlier in the week and having her home start on fire.

She did say she's relieved everyone and their pets are all right.

Right now, the Cedar Falls family says they're trying to figure out what's covered under their insurance policy.

According to firefighters, a neighbor offered to let them use their garage to store some of their items that weren't burned in the fire.

Cedar Falls firefighters say the fire was isolated to the home's attic space and insulation.
