With Mother Nature's cooperation, more than 48 million Americans are expected to travel 50 miles or more for Thanksgiving according to AAA. Many people here in eastern Iowa spent the day getting last-minute preparations done.

Boubin Tire & Automotive had their schedule completely booked today.

Manager Shawn Streittmatter says, "We are jam-packed today with all emergency stuff that no one worries about until they have to go visit their in-laws for the weekend."

Once your car is ready to go, you can't forget to fill up.

Aven Helgerson of Cedar Falls says, "I have lot of traveling to do this week. It will be busy for work, travel,'s a little bit of everything."

Like many, he's taking advantage of the low gas prices.

"I remember back when it was $3 a gallon, so it's nice. I like the cheaper gas prices, but at the same time it's forcing me to drive a lot more," he says.

It's not just people going in and out of town on the roads today, many people are out for some last-minute grocery shopping.

Martavious Bailey of Waterloo says, "I am out here now to get the sales and deals before it gets too crowded."

Many people are stocking up on last-minute Thanksgiving deals, for that perfect meal tomorrow night.

Bailey says, "I got my coupons here! I am going to get the ham, the turkey, and stuff to put on both of them. I am cooking up at my new place so it's going to be a good time with family."

At last check according to, the cheapest gas in Black Hawk County is at Sam's Club in Waterloo for $1.81 a gallon.

Safe travels to everyone out on the roads tonight and Happy Thanksgiving!
