AMHERST, Mass. (NBC) -

The president of a Massachusetts college has banned all flags from its campus after someone set fire to an American flag.

Hampshire College President Jonathan Lash announced Wednesday that no flags will be flown until further notice. This comes after someone set fire to an American flag that was flying low on a pole the night before Veterans Day.

Many believe the person was upset because of the results of the presidential election. Lash says this ban will allow students and staff to have an open campus discussion.
