A Winter Wonderland will unfold the weekend of December 10 & 11 at Hick's Place in Cedar Falls as a way to help military families next summer.

The well known outdoor retreat venue will host its version of a local Winter Wonderland on Saturday, December 10 and Sunday, December 11, from 12:30 p.m. until 4 p.m. both days.

Families are welcome and each vehicle under eight people costs $20 – tickets are required and can be found at

The second annual Winter Wonderland at Hick’s Place will act as a fundraiser for the Military Family Appreciation Day that happens every August at Hick’s.  The Military Family Appreciation Day allows military personnel and their families to enjoy a day of fun activities, great food, and a concert, all for free.

Winter Wonderland will have a wide variety of activities for families including winter hay rides, a scavenger hunt, laser tag, archery, and more.  Additionally, free professional photographs with Santa Claus will be available.  Wonderland crafts will include ornaments donated by Entangled Wood Designs, a traveling crafts business.  Examples can be found at  Christmas treats baked by Mrs. Claus will also be available both days.

Hick’s Place CEO Jenni Laughlin Stevenson has decided to offer tickets for this year’s event because of the incredible turnout for last year’s Winter Wonderland.  “We just wanted to make sure we have a count of everyone so everybody has the greatest experience possible,” adds Laughlin Stevenson.
