Posted: Updated:

Five teenagers are facing charges after a two-day BB gun shooting spree around Iowa City. Multiple people on the east and southeast side of town reported vehicle windows being shot out, damage to their homes, and at least one person with minor injuries.

Over the past two days, officers from the Iowa City Police Department have responded to approximately 35 Criminal Mischief reports involving BB Guns.

Witnesses and victims consistently described the vehicle with some unique identifiers.

On Saturday night around 6:42 p.m., authorities located a vehicle matching the description of the suspected vehicle near the Breckenridge Trailer Court, located at 4494 Taft Ave. The vehicle was occupied by five juveniles ranging in age from 15-17 years old.

Police said BB guns, BBs and CO2 cartridges were found in the vehicle. All juveniles were transported to the Iowa City Police Department for questioning, where they confessed to all of the above criminal acts.

The teens were released to their parents/ guardians and were charged with Carrying Weapons, but police say more charges are to come. Police said the total damage from the vandalism is estimated to be several thousand dollars and more reports are expected to come in. Until the public has had a chance to report all of the damages, the police will wait on pursuing additional charges, they said.

Anyone who believes they are a victim of the BB gun damage or witnessed either property damage or an assault is asked to contact Iowa City police.
