Coe rides turnovers to 21-14 win over Monmouth in D-III playoffs

Coe forced a school record nine turnovers, but needed to hold on late to advance past Monmouth 21-14 in the NCAA Division III playoffs. The victory gave the school their first 11-win season in history.

After falling behind 7-0 early, the Kohawks responded with a 6-yard touchdown connection between Gavin Glenn and Tyler Gunderson. They'd take their first lead of the second half as Glenn hit Daniel Vega, who had played most of the game at defensive tackle, on a short scoring strike to go up 14-7 in the third quarter. Trevor Heitland padded the lead with a 41 yard touchdown run as Coe led 21-7 going to the 4th quarter.

Following a 4th quarter Monmouth touchdown to pull within seven, the Coe defense, which recovered four fumbles and picked off five passes, forced a turnover on downs in the final minute to seal the victory.

Coe will travel to 11-0 Saint Thomas next week for their second round game.
