Republican Representative excited for future

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

Iowa republicans are excited to gain control following the November election.

Marking the first time since 1998 that the GOP had control over both the House and Senate.

Walt Rogers says he has never been in the minority, but since the republicans are gaining full control, he is hopeful democrats will work with them.

Clean water and transparency are two key concepts House District 60 Representative, Walt Rogers is trying to accomplish.

"We have a long way to go with transparency in government," said Rogers. "I wish everyone was 100% transparent, but that's something that is going to take some time, but I'm happy to be involved in those things at the state level."

Republicans have taken control of the House, Senate and presidency.

"I had a sense this was going to happen," said Rogers. "I was talking to a lot of people and I heard people say, 'I'm voting for Trump, I am just not telling anybody,' I got a lot of that and a lot of people wanted change at the presidential level."

President-elect Donald Trump has made a lot of promises.

"Expectations are pretty high, but in some sense some people's expectations are pretty low," said Rogers. "I think the biggest thing Donald Trump brings is change and so from both sides of the aisle I think people will be looking to see if change happens and hopefully it's change for the good."

Something Rogers is really pushing for is clean water.

"Our water here in Iowa is still fantastic, it's good quality," said Rogers. "I would like to see a study done to find out what is the potential down the road, if there is potential of it getting worse or polluted, so we know for sure."

Walt Rogers says he is listening to what Iowans want. He hopes to bring all of that to the table at the state house.

Rogers believes President-elect Trump has a great opportunity to be a transparent president, saying it's up to him to bring the change he promised.
