Long-lost cat returned to Iowa shelter, thanks to microchip

A cat lost since escaping a fire at an Anamosa shelter three years ago has turned up 25 miles away in Cedar Rapids.
The cat, named "Tommy," was among 11 that escaped when the Anamosa cat shelter burned in 2013. Most were returned, but Tommy had disappeared.
Animal Welfare Foundation manager Tracy McCarty says that for weeks after the fire, she set live traps hoping the gray cat would show up in one. He never did.
But on Thursday, McCarty received a call from Cedar Rapids animal control. They had picked up a gray cat the night before, and its microchip led to her.
McCarty says Tommy seems to like his new home at the rebuilt shelter in Monticello and will live out his days as the shelter's mascot.
