Family celebrates National Adoption Day with new daughter

Sweet little Emmalea has been with the Greenwood's since she was a month old.

"She always is happy. Always has a smile," said Rhonda Greenwood.

It's been 574 days of sharing their love and home, but on Friday it became official.

"She just has seemed to fit in to our family," said Greenwood.

On National Adoption Day at the Black Hawk County Courthouse, Emmalea officially became a Greenwood.

About nine years ago this family opened up their home to children through foster care and since then, they've adopted now five kids.

"We didn't go into it thinking that, but God blessed us over and over again," said Greenwood.

Over and over again they've had the chance to hear those cheers and share moments with a courtroom full of family and friends. Rhonda Greenwood hopes other children may have this opportunity and find loving families.

"So many kids need homes, if it's for a day, a week or forever," said Greenwood.

More than 20 children were adopted in Black Hawk County on Friday.
