UNI Men's hoops thrash Arizona State 82-63

The University of Northern Iowa men's basketball team moved on to the semifinals of the 2016 Tire Pros Invitational with an 82-63 win over the Arizona State Sun Devils on Thursday at the HP Field House.

The Panthers (2-0 overall) got a career-high scoring night from Klint Carlson with 19 points and a double-double from Jeremy Morgan with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Carlson made 8-of-10 field goal attempts and grabbed four rebounds. Arizona State (2-1 overall) got 19 points from Torian Graham. 

UNI drained 13 three-pointers in the victory as Spencer Haldeman collected a team-best five made triples. Haldeman scored 17 points off the bench as UNI's bench out-scored the ASU bench, 23-7. Haldeman drained 6-of-8 shots from the field, including 5-of-7 from 3-point range.

UNI led 37-29 at the half as Morgan and Haldeman each buried all three of their 3-point shots. The Panthers led by as many as 10 in the first half at 37-27 with 1:10 left on the clock.

The Panthers took a 49-36 lead with 15:32 left in the game following a conventional three-point play from Carlson. The Sun Devils would cut the lead back to seven at 52-45 after a three-pointer from Sam Cunliffe. UNI would respond with a 16-5 run to push the Panther advantage to 68-50 with 6:38 remaining in the game. UNI led by as many as 20 points at 73-53.
