Warmer weathers helps business

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Warmer weather gives local contractors an edge when it comes to finishing last-minute projects for the season.

When you step outside, you're probably not thinking how it helps local business, but Waterloo developers say higher temperatures mean higher returns.

It might be noisy it some neighborhoods from construction, but it's a good sign of growth for Waterloo.

"It's allowing us to move faster through the project than we originally anticipated," developer Paul Moore said.

Moore develops new homes in Waterloo and said recent weather will boost the housing market which helps contractors.

"They'll take sweatshirt weather any day, over what it typically is this time of year," Moore said.

With the warmer weather, contractors can ditch the jackets, roll up their sleeves, and really get to work.

That opens the door for developers to build more homes to provide more homes for renters and buyers.

"The extended fall has been awesome for us. Not only have the temperatures been above normal, which allows us to get things like masonry work done later into the year. Also, it's been an exceptionally dry fall, So, we've been able to do a lot of ground work. and prepare for projects for next spring, and potentially laying some sod here in the next couple of days," Moore said.

Moore said young adults and retirees seem to be renting property more now than ever before.

Townhome projects are ahead of schedule, and they should be ready to lease or buy sooner than expected.
