DUBUQUE -- State law enforcement officials are seeking to decertify a former Dubuque police officer convicted of sexually abusing a teenage girl.
The Telegraph Herald reports (http://bit.ly/2ftXaQQ ) that the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy Council published notice of its intent to decertify 31-year-old Kyle Cross. A case hearing is set for Dec. 1 at the academy in Johnston, Iowa.
Early this year, Cross pleaded guilty to third-degree sexual abuse, a felony, after he acknowledged having sexual contact with a 14-year-old runaway who was found at his house in February 2015. He was given a 10-year suspended prison sentence and ordered to register as a sex offender.
Cross had worked as a Dubuque police officer from 2007 to 2012.
He told the newspaper he does not plan to fight the decertification.
