Neighbors react to fatal shooting

A 19-year-old girl is dead Saturday after she was shot in Waterloo.

People who live in the area have visited the crime scene, attempting to figure out what exactly happened Friday night.

Police tape roped off the block where the teen was shot.

"This is a sin and a shame that we are killing each other," said Leon Mosley, Waterloo.

Police responded to Linn and Gable Street after 11 Friday night. People who live near by say they heard six to eight gun shots.

"That's when I was told a young lady was shot in the head and she was rushed to the hospital," said David Bates, Waterloo.

The roped off areas include two cars, people who live nearby say the shooting happened in one of those cars.

"I know that a car was following them and they were told not to stop because there was a car following them," said Mosley. "The young lady stopped, I don't know why she stopped, but she stopped and they killed her."

People who live in the area say this shooting hits too close to home, others calling it senseless.

"This is senseless, this girl hasn't even got a chance to live," said Mosley.

"If it was one of my daughters, I'd be pissed," said Bates. "I really would, I mean this is senseless."

Both Bates and Mosley agree, the violence needs to stop.

"This could have been your child, your daughter, your mother, your girlfriend or someone that you cared about," said Bates. "Now this family is sad and in mourning because they lost a loved one, when will it stop?"

People in the area say they believe the girl who was shot was targeted, but they're not sure why.

Waterloo Police haven't arrested anyone in connection to the crime and the girl's name has not been released.
