A shooting took place as children were walking home from school, Wednesday afternoon.

It happened in the 300 block of State Street near Downtown Waterloo.  Waterloo investigators counted multiple bullet holes in two homes.

The shooting left at least six bullets in one home, where neighbors say at two young children live.

And across the street, one bullet hit Margaret Green's home just feet from where she was napping.

"Scary! Well, we have lived here so many years and haven't had anything like that happen, that is quite a thing," said Margaret Green.

For more than 60 years, Green has lived in her home watching neighbors come and go and the many children of the neighborhood play.

Some of who were getting home from school around the time of the shooting.

"But it is happening all over, so. I said to Russ, we could sell, but where would we go?" said Green.

Police are still working to determine who the intended target was.

"That is what they thought. One would be going that way and shot there. One would be going this way and shot here, but I don't know. Maybe one came through the alley. I have no idea. No, I don't know," said Green.

It is unclear at this time if one of the homes were targets or if it was two separate parties, who just happened to be in the area, shooting at each other.

The shooting remains under investigation.

This is the second daylight shooting in as many weeks in Waterloo.

The last one turning deadly, when a 22-year-old was shot multiple times on Franklin Street.
