WAVERLY (KWWL) -

Cooper Nelson took the pitch and scored on a two-point conversion in overtime to give the Luther Norse a 28-27 win over Wartburg, their first victory in Waverly since 1985.

The overtime heroics came on the heels of a bruising, hard nosed effort from the Norse. Fullback Christian Moore tallied 178 yards and 2 touchdowns in the game as Luther doubled up Wartburg in time of possession.

The Norse appeared on their way to a win in regulation as quarterback Bradley Letney hit Josh Herrington in stride for a 55 yard score and a 20-7 edge early in the third quarter. Wartburg's defense, however, stiffened up, and the offense took advantage scoring on back to back drives to tie the game at 20 eventually forcing overtime.

After the Knights scored on the first possession, Luther countered with Moore, scoring on a 16 yard run to set up Nelson's game winning conversion.
