CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

Along with the presidential race, many local races on the ballot come Tuesday.

KWWL has a look at Iowa House Race, District 60 for Waterloo and Cedar Falls.

Facing off in the race, two-term veteran in the house, Republican candidate Walt Rogers and newcomer Democratic candidate Gary Kroeger.

Both locally born and bred, Kroeger and Rogers say they are invested in Iowa and creating a bright future for the state.

The two candidates emphasizing the importance of a strong Iowa economy, but in their own ways.

"Just making sure Iowa stays in a good financial place," said Republican Walt Rogers. "Over the past six years, that has been one of the things that I've talked about a lot. Making sure we make smart decisions with our budget and don't spend more money than we taken in. That has kept Iowa, I think, in a good financial place to make sure that we are growing."

"The economy and education," said Democrat Gary Kroeger. "I believe that education has to be the priority. We have to prioritize our budget with new revenue towards education. Towards the regent schools. Towards the public education. That is the battery that is going to provide the opportunity for business, for new entrepreneurs, for skilled workforce."

Kroeger also a big supporter of clean water and against privatized medicaid.

"We have to work together. We have to identify what it is that we want to accomplish. I think there are things like education, taking care of senior citizens, access to health care or whatever the policy. How do we make more Iowans healthy and less afraid of financial ruin?" said Kroeger.

Rogers focusing on growing wind energy, providing more funding for UNI and re-working health care.

"I've got ten grandkids; I think of their future and what it will be over the next 30-40-50 years. So I want Iowa to be a place that they can thrive. They can grow and be who God made them to be. So I am excited about hopefully influencing our state to be a place where they can do that," said Rogers.
