Authorities "seeing indications" of dangerous drug in Dubuque

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

The Dubuque Drug Task Force says they're "seeing indications" that Carfentanil, a drug 100 times more potent than fentanyl, is starting to hit the streets in the Tri-State area.

According to a release sent out Friday afternoon, Carfentanil and fentanyl are often mixed with heroin to increase it's potency, and can often have deadly consequences.

The Dubuque Drug Task Force says those drugs often appear in the form of a white to tan powder.

"The Dubuque Drug Task Force is asking the community to be vigilant and cautious when dealing with any substance believed to be fentanyl or carfentanil and to contact law enforcement with any information about this drug in our community," said Sgt. Gary Pape in that press release.
