Cedar Rapids couple welcomes new baby during game 7 of World Series

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

While many Eastern Iowans packed bars and crowded living rooms to watch game 7 of the World Series, Matt and Megan Jansen were at the hospital, having a baby.

Benjamin Matthew Jansen was born during game 7 to the couple, who are big time Cubs fans.

The couple knew earlier this week that Wednesday would be the day to meet their new child, but didn't know until Tuesday night that the Cubs would also be playing on Wednesday.

But when Benjamin found out the Cubs would make history with a World Series win, he couldn't wait any longer.

"So we had family, you know, waiting 70 years, 80 years. He waited less than two hours," Matt said.

Baby Benjamin's timing was a bit off, though.

About the time he was born, Rajai Davis hit a two-run home run for the Indians to tie the game at six in the 8th inning.

"For a split second I'm disappointed, but then I realized I wanted the Cubs to win, but in the grand scheme of things, here's my newborn boy, it doesn't matter. Hopefully they win, but this is more important," Matt said.

The gender of their second child was a mystery to the Jansen's, and they admit they were a bit surprised to have a second boy.

They had a few names on their list, but their ultimate inspiration came from the World Series MVP: Ben Zobrist.

"Then he hits this double down the left field line, and we just looked at each other and said, what about Ben? We thought maybe that would be a good first name. I mean, we already liked that name," he said.

A new son and a World Series Championship in the span of less than two hours.

A pretty good night for the Jansen family.

"I don't know if I can top it. I mean, having a kid is amazing no matter what, but it was almost the same feeling twice."
