IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

After the Cubs clinched their first World Series title in more than a century, at least one celebration turned dangerous.

A large crowd was celebrating outside of DC's in Iowa City.

As a part of the celebration a man climbed a light pole, the glass on the top shattered and the man fell several feet to the brick ground.

Police say stabilization efforts were made and the man was taken to the University of Iowa Hospital.

There is no word on this condition.

KWWL spoke with multiple witnesses today who are still shaken up.

One witness who wished to be anonymous tells us what he saw, "I didn't think anything of it people were kind of cheering him on because it was a part of the celebrations," he said.

"I looked away and when I looked back he was on the ground not moving at all," the witness added.

It was a horrific scene witnessed by so many.

Cubs fan Collin Murphy did not witness the incident, but his roommate told him what he saw.

"A kid fell off and kind of hit his head, went head first and there was just a bunch of blood and he was knocked out cold and was just not in good condition," Murphy told us.

He says it's hard not to be heartbroken for the man and his family despite the Cubs big win.

"Just kind of takes the wind out of the sails of the celebration," Murphy says.

The Iowa City Police Department says it was a tragic accident, but they are not able to update us the condition of the man.
