Cyclones' Morris voted top AP Preseason First Team

Posted: Updated:

Iowa State senior guard Monté Morris has been selected as an Associated Press Preseason All-American. Joining Morris on the team are Duke’s Grayson Allen, California’s Ivan Rabb, Villanova’s Josh Hart and Oregon’s Dillon Brooks.

Morris is the second Cyclone in as many years to be on the Associated Press preseason team. Georges Niang earned the recognition a year ago.

Morris, the 2016 Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year and Cousy Award watch list member, averaged 13.8 points and 6.9 assists to go along with 3.9 rebounds as a junior. He is the leading returning player in the Big 12 in scoring, assists, assist-to-turnover ratio (4.23) and minutes played (38.0).

The Flint, Michigan, native enters his final season as the Big 12’s active career leader in assists (551) and steals (172). He ranks third nationally in both categories as well.

Morris and the Cyclones face Sioux Falls Sunday at 6 p.m. in an exhibition game at Hilton Coliseum.
