DES MOINES (KWWL) -

Hillary Clinton's campaign has announced that it is canceling a campaign event that was to feature Vice Presidential candidate Tim Kaine and former President Bill Clinton in Des Moines, following news of an ambush-style attack that left two police officers dead.

The statement, sent in a news release, reads: "[d]ue to the tragic shooting of Des Moines and Urbandale police officers last night, the Des Moines Get Out the Vote event with Tim Kaine, President Bill Clinton, and Ben Harper at the Des Moines Social Club has been canceled."

The event was scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. tonight.

A Waterloo campaign stop with Bill Clinton is still scheduled to take place at 4 p.m. at the Waterloo Center for the Arts. Kaine will also still make an originally-scheduled stop in Dubuque, speaking at Loras College at 1:45 p.m.
