NASHUA (KWWL) -

Waterloo Columbus and Lake Mills took it to the brink. Lauren McManus' tip over the defense found the floor and gave Columbus a 15-8 win in the 5th set to hand the fourth ranked Bulldogs their first loss of the season and send the Sailors to the class 2A state tournament.

Columbus appeared to be heading for a sweep after wins of 25-23 and 25-22 in the first two sets. Lake Mills, however, controlled the next two rallying for 26-24 and 25-18 wins to set up the decisive game five. The outcome of the final was never in doubt as the Sailors took an early lead and never let go to advance to the state tournament.

Anna Sinnott led Columbus with an astounding 29 kills in the match.

Tenth ranked Columbus will meet number three Sumner-Fredericksburg in the first round of the state tournament. The Cougars and Sailors are two of five NICL East Conference teams to reach the tournament.
