Waterloo police are investigating an armed robbery, and an attempted armed robbery that happened overnight Friday night.

According to police, one man armed with a handgun and wearing a black sweatshirt entered Jim's Foods, 436 Sullivan Ave, around midnight Friday night. The man demanded money, but then left without any cash.

Surveillance video from Jim's Foods convenience store shows a man running in with a gun, pointing it right at the owner.

The owner of the store, Syed Jaffari says this is the second time the store has been robbed.

"And he jump in here," said Jaffari. "I say, in these days, it's Halloween."

Since it was Halloween weekend, Jaffari thought the man was just pulling a prank.

However, surveillance video shows the man wasn't joking, pointing a gun right at Jaffari's face. The suspect then asked for the cash in his register, and when Jaffari didn't understand, the man tapped on the register.

When Jaffari got up to let the man back near the register, the suspect ran away. Jaffari says he stood outside for a few minutes, lingering before he ran off.

The video shows the man wearing a black sweatshirt and gloves, with his face covered.

Jaffari says he wasn't able to get a good look at the man's face, and even in surveillance footage it's hard to make out his identity because his face is covered.

Jaffari says he's ramping up security in his store, adding even more surveillance cameras.

The second armed robbery happened at Kwik Star, 707 Broadway Street around 6 a.m. Saturday morning. Police say two suspects armed with a handgun, wearing dark colored sweatshirts entered the store and demanded money. The men took an undisclosed amount of cash and left.

Waterloo Police say they are investigating both incidents to see if they are related.

No injuries have been reported, and no arrests have been made.
