Three people injured after crash in La Porte City

Police in La Porte City say three people were hurt in a single-car accident today.

Black Hawk County Sheriff's Deputies and La Porte City Police responded to the crash on the 600 block of Commercial Street at 11:30 a.m. this morning.

According to police, 49-year-old Maria Motto of Vinton was driving northbound on Commercial Street when she lost control of her vehicle.  Motto left the roadway and struck a tree. She was taken to Covenant Medical Center with serious injuries.

Two passengers in the rear seat were also injured. 38-year-old Sylvia McVay from Cedar Rapids received a minor arm injury and 42-year-old Dean DeMoss of Hiawatha received critical life threatening injuries.

McVay and DeMoss were transported to Covenant Medical Center with DeMoss and then flown by helicopter to the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.

Deputies and Officers were assisted at the scene by the La Porte City Fire Department and Covenant Paramedics.

The accident is still under investigation.
