CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

A University of Northern Iowa student is arrested in connection to vandalizing three College Hill bars in Cedar Falls.

Managers say their businesses were vandalized on the morning of Oct. 7 around 3:30 a.m.

According to Cedar Falls Police, Brendon Shaw, 19, was arrested in connection to the crimes.

Clear surveillance video shows a person destroying property at Social House, Little Bigs, and Suds Bar.

Social House General Manager, Jorge Covarrubias, explains, "I think it was shock. Once you're in you'd think you'd want to take something, but what he was doing was trying to damage everything which was shocking."

They say the suspect destroyed bar stools, Point of Sales systems (computers), liquor bottles and more were all destroyed.

They say the suspect didn't appear to know he was being recorded by the several cameras inside and outside the bars.

"It was about $12,000 in damage. Luckily, we have a great staff here, and they came in to help clean up before we opened at 4:00 p.m. It was a team effort to get it open, but we did it. It was awesome," Jorge said.

According to managers, it was a collaborative effort among employees, customers, Cedar Falls Police, and even nearby businesses owners to track down the person they think is responsible.

"Once the Cedar Falls Police Department got the color surveillance of him, we showed a couple employees, and word got out, and it was only a couple hours before we located him on Instagram, and he was actually wearing the same outfit when he broke in," Jorge said.

According to the police report, Shaw was charged with more than five felonies including three counts of burglary, the rest were criminal mischief.

Little Bigs owners say they were under construction during the vandalism, and they are set to open next week despite the setback.
