Former substitute teacher now facing felony charge

Posted: Updated:

A former eastern Iowa substitute teacher is now facing a felony charge after prosecutors found new evidence from interviews she did with media outlets.

Mary Beth Haglin is facing a felony charge of Sexual Exploitation, which carries a possible sentence of up to five years in prison.

Since her arrest, Haglin has interview with multiple media outlets including Dr. Phil, Inside Edition and Crime Watch Daily, to talk about her alleged crime.

Now, prosecutors are providing evidence that supports a felony offense - "The defendant has engaged in a pattern or practice of sexual conduct with a student while employed as a school employee at Washington High School in Cedar Rapids."

Haglin will enter a plea to the new charge on November 4th, 2016.

Last summer, Haglin admitted to having a relationship with a high school boy. Haglin's relationship with the 17-year-old student was going on while she was a substitute teacher at Washington High School. She claimed the school found out about her relationship, telling her to keep the situation quiet. You can read more about it here:
