Iowa man allegedly abused girl he lured through social media

Police in one eastern Iowa county charged a man who they accused of continuously abusing a teen he met through social media.

25-year-old Niall Lewis of Cedar Rapids faces a felony Sex Abuse charge.

Investigators say he lured a 14-year-old girl over the internet and allegedly had sex with her throughout the course of the summer. The investigation started in early September.

Fayette County Sheriff, Marty Fisher says there was one victim in Fayette County, but he believes there may be more.

An alleged victim spoke with KWWL through Facebook saying, "We were at his place one night, I feel asleep, and that's when I got assaulted."

"He would start up a relationship on social media and then meet up with them," said Sheriff Fisher. "This was a meeting of two people, obviously she was lured in as a friend and then it happened, and of course there are over five years difference between the age group here, which is a crime itself."

Though Niall Lewis is booked at the Fayette County Jail, the victim says she has nightmares about him assaulting her.

"Sometimes I'll have nightmares that he would come back and try anything he could with me," she wrote to KWWL on Facebook.

Sheriff Fisher is urging other victims to come forward saying, "We want to be there and make sure that we can get that information out there and have these people come forth with what happened to them, so we can put these people behind bars."

Sheriff Fisher stresses that parents should monitor their children on social media because there are predators out there.

The investigation is continuing in Cedar Rapids where Sheriff Fisher says there is at least one more victim.

If you know someone who is a victim, or if you are the victim, please contact local police.
