Field of Dreams farmhouse to start tours

Posted: Updated:

Pretty soon, baseball fanatics will be able to explore more of the Field of Dreams movie site in Dyersville.

The farmhouse seen in the iconic movie has never been open to visitors. "We are so thrilled to be able to now open the house for the very first time in the history of the Field of Dreams movie site," said Denise Stillman, president of Go the Distance Baseball.

They're opening up the home to tours because of so many requests.

During a guided 30 minute tour on the first floor, people will learn what it was like filming a Hollywood movie here. "We did reset the kitchen so it looks very much like it does in the movie, in fact that Kelvinator stove is the the movie, does work and functions as a stove for the home," Stillman said.

The second floor will be off limits to visitors. It's an actual home for someone.

The house is also filled with baseball artifacts, the perfect attraction for sports fans like the Graney family who traveled all the way from the state of Delaware to be here. "I love the movie and I'm a huge baseball fan and I've always wanted to come here," said Marie Graney.

Unlike the main gift shop, the farmhouse will be open year round. It'll even be decorated for the holidays.

The tours are set to start Nov. 1. There is an admissions cost.
