DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Hundreds of pounds of opioids collected throughout eastern Iowa today.

It's part of the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day program where people drop off unwanted medication.

Authorities pleased with a successful turnout in Dubuque -- a way to get harmful drugs off the streets.

"It's been going pretty good, so far we are three quarters through and we've already collected over 300 pounds of medication, and about 150 worth of sharps," said Gary Pape, sergeant with the Dubuque Drug Task Force.

This also taking place in  Cedar Rapids and Waterloo.
