Armed robbery string continues in Iowa City

Posted: Updated:
IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Armed robberies are not new to Iowa City, in fact we know of eight of them so far this year.

Police are not ruling out some of the armed robberies could be related.

Around 3:20 a.m. a man is accused of robbing an Iowa City Kum & Go on Riverside Drive with a gun, demanding money.

Less than ten minutes later, a Kum & Go on South Gilbert Street was robbed.

The second Kum & Go robbery had two suspects but police say one of the two was described similarly to the robber at the first Kum & Go.

These two recent robberies add to a string of robberies that has been going on in the city for months.

In February surveillance video shows a robber coming into Acapulco Mexican Bakery where the owners say he made away with thousands of dollars.

In July, First American Bank on Hwy. 1 was robbed at gunpoint by a man in all black clothing.

Just days after First American Bank was robbed, employees at Culvers on Hwy. 1 were forced back inside at gunpoint by a man in all black with a black mask.

Days later, a robber went to Pancheros on Riverside Drive wearing all black.

In August, a man in dark clothing with a gun robbed the McDonalds on Mormon Trek Boulevard.

Each time, robbers have been men in all black or dark clothing, each of these crimes is still unsolved.

Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $1,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest in any of these robberies.

Again, police are not ruling out the possibility some of the robberies could be related.
