Two adults from Decorah have died in a shooting in Winneshiek County.

The sheriff's office says 55-year-old Craig Freilinger and 41-year-old Sarah Szabo were found dead last night at 2472 Dogwood Road, just outside of Decorah.

Investigators say the two had been dating each other and recently separated.

Law enforcement says there is no threat to the public and they are not looking for any suspects, but investigators did not give an answer when KWWL asked if that means the shooter is either in custody or has died.

The sheriff's office says autopsies will be done.


UPDATE: The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting that happened in Freeport last night.

They say at this point, the public is not in any danger.

KWWL asked authorities if the shooter is in custody, but we haven't heard back.

Investigators encourage everyone to stay out of the area as they investigate the crime scene.

"When I heard the gunshots, I was scared, really scared... and I thought it was coming from over here because all the birds flew out. Then, I heard more gunshots coming from there. I was really scared," said Nyeli Delagarza.

According to the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation, they have been asked to assist with a double death investigation in Winneshiek County.

Agents are on the way to the Decorah area right now.

The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office should be handling all media inquiries at this time.

We have put in several calls, and they say they are busy working the incident.

According to witnesses in the area, Dogwood area is blocked with police cars, and neighbors can't get back into their homes.

One neighbor called KWWL and said he heard gunshots in the area.

We have reached out to DCI, the Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office, and Decorah Police to ask whether the shooter is in custody, but we have not heard back.

Decorah Police are on the scene of an incident near Dogwood Road.

According to a witness who lives in the 2400 block of Dogwood, they were watching football earlier tonight, when they heard something that sounds like gunshots and left.

Right now, the witness says the area is blocked off and police are in the area.

We have put in several calls with Decorah Police, and they have not yet confirmed any information.
