WATERLOO (KWWL) -

A woman is out of her home following an early morning fire in Waterloo.

Firefighters responded to the 300 block of Lafayette Street around 4:30 a.m. Smoke was coming out of a window.

The building is a duplex. The fire started in a lower unit. The person who lives there got out on her own. There's damage to the unit and she is not able to stay there. The Red Cross is helping. There's some damage to an upper unit, too, but firefighters say the people who live there can stay there.

Firefighters estimate the damage at $10,000.
