Iowa City Police investigating two armed robberies overnight

The Iowa City Police Department is investigating two armed robbery reports.

The first happened around 3:21 a.m. Monday morning at a Kum & Go at 513 S. Riverside Drive. The clerk told police that someone entered the store with a handgun and demanded money.

The clerk gave him money and the suspect ran away. The clerk was not injured.

The suspect was described as a black male, wearing a red hoodie and a black bandana that covered the bottom portion of his face.

9 minutes later at 3:30 a.m., the Iowa City Police Department received another reported at a different Kum & Go at 1310 S. Gilbert Street. The clerk told police there two males entered the store, one of which pulled out a handgun demanding money.

The clerk gave him money and the suspects ran away. The clerk was not injured.

The description of the male that approached the clerk was similar to that of the suspect in the earlier robbery. The second suspect was described as a black male dressed entirely in black. Both had slender builds and were of average height.

Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers is offering a reward of up to $1000 for information leading to the arrest of the suspects.  Anyone with information about this crime is urged to contact CrimeStoppers at 358-TIPS (8477).
