WATERLOO (KWWL) -

A Black Hawk County Sheriff's Deputy is arrested Friday morning for carrying a loaded Glock 27 semi-automatic handgun while intoxicated.

According to a criminal complaint, Erick Allen McFerran, 34, had a weapon permit, but it was void because he admitted to drinking and later blew a .169% BAC three hours after the alleged incident.

According to the complaint, police were called to the Yesway Gas Station at 117 San Marnan Drive for a report of an assault at 3:32 a.m. Friday.

When officers arrived, they talked to witnesses who said McFerran assaulted one of the them.

Officers say McFerran seemed to be highly intoxicated due to bloodshot eyes, unsteady balance, and slurred speech.

Officers say McFerran admitted multiple times to drinking alcohol.

According to the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office, Erick McFerran is on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal affairs investigation.

"We are currently working cooperatively with the investigating agency and the county attorney's office regarding this incident," Sheriff Tony Thompson said.
