State Fire Marshal investigates Alburnett house fire

ALBURNETT (KWWL) -

A television remote may be to blame for a fire that destroyed a home.

Though homeowners and neighbors say firefighters say the house fire could have sparked from a TV remote, the Alburnett Fire Chief , Steve Graham, says the cause is still under investigation.

"Sometimes it's hard to tell because the house is gone but usually there's a V like pattern on the wall or somewhere where it started or stuff like that... the most charred area in the room," said Graham.

The most charred area in the room is at the center of the family living room, right by the couch. Neighbors say the fire could have started from a lost TV remote in the cushions.

"That's what I was told last night, it happened on a couch which had a remote tucked down, you know how you lose a remote sometimes?" said Rod Comried, neighbor.

The fire chief did not confirm that the fire sparked from a remote, "It could be possible, I have no idea, anything is possible," said Graham.

The homeowners say they don't smoke in the house and their living room lamp was unplugged.

"Who knows what was there, they could have had a tablet there or something you know well probably never know," said Graham.

No one was home at the time of the fire, but the family did lose one of their two dogs.
