DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

UPDATE:

Last week on Tuesday, as Jakeice Malone gives his client a haircut, shots are fired nearby.

"I was cutting hair, it wasn't that busy. I had a client in the chair. It was just a regular day and I heard shots," he said.

IT happened just before 3 p.m. across the street from Exclusive Cutz N Stylez on the 500 block of west Eight Street.  "I got down on the floor, I told me and my client to get down on the floor and we ran into the washroom, I locked the door. We ran into the washroom until the shots stopped."

21-year-old Steven Burrell of Chicago initially charged with reckless use of a firearm, now charged with attempted murder for this. Police looking into whether another man pointed a gun at him before he started to shoot.

Witnesses tell police they saw Burrell running near a wooded area. They found him there, he was hiding and then was arrested.

Jakeice says it was his first time ever seeing Burrell.

He's now concerned the shooting might affect his business. "It's just crazy that it happened right here, next to my business, across the street from my business. It's kinda bad, I'm kinda worried about all my clients now...who's all gonna come back," said Jakeice.

Jakiece says this is something that doesn't happen where he's located. He doesn't think people should be worried.

If convicted Steven Burrell faces up to 25-years in prison.

Authorities say additional charges are possible.
