UPDATE: Iowa man arrested after shooting at police during standoff

Buchanan deputies on scene the morning after a standoff in Aurora.

Just before 11 o'clock Saturday night, they respond to a mobile home for a domestic disturbance.

Soon after, the situation escalates. They say 55-year-old Dennis Chamberlain was threatening a woman inside with a weapon. 

Deputies try talking  with Chamberlain, but when they do he starts shooting at them.

Neighbors say they heard multiple shots. The back of a nearby home may have been hit by one of the bullets. Deputies investigating whether a hole was caused by a shot.

The sheriff's office says their deputies didn't shoot back.

The standoff lasting nearly two hours, even a  law enforcement negotiator brought in to help end the tense situation.

The good news here, no one is injured...neither the deputies, the woman or chamberlain.

He is then arrested and is currently being held at the Buchanan County  Jail. Chamberlain faces several serious charges, including attempted murder and false imprisonment.


A man is arrested after shooting at authorities during a two hour standoff in Aurora.

Around 10:53 p.m. Saturday night., the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible domestic disturbance at 306 Buffalo Street in Aurora.  About 20 minutes later, they received another call that this incident had now turned into a standoff situation with a man inside threatening a woman with a weapon.

Deputies arrived on scene and attempted to make contact with the man, 55-year-old Dennis Edgar Chamberlain. During the course of the standoff, Chamberlain fired shots towards law enforcement officers who were staged outside.

 A negotiator was then used and approximately two hours later, Chamberlain was taken into custody.

No injuries were reported. The man was the only individual to fire shots during this incident.

Dennis Edgar Chamberlain of Aurora is facing multiple charges including:  Attempted Murder, Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon, Domestic Abuse Assault with Dangerous Weapon, Reckless Use of Firearm Causing Property Damage, and False Imprisonment.

Chamberlain was transported to and is being held at the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office.
