"Boys to Men" turning 10-year-olds into young gentlemen

Posted: Updated:

Local boys are going beyond the books to learn a very important lesson in school: How to be a true gentleman.

Ten boys at Irving Elementary School are enrolled in "Boys to Men", a new program put on by volunteers every week.

Organizer Adam Bolander says, "We brainstormed and we figured instead of just being a mentor to one kid, if we did a group then we could really expand and help more students out at once."

Organizer Kevin Grieme says, "I grew up with my dad always around it was a lot of fun. I'm just trying to pass on what I've learned to these kids."

The program is ten weeks long, with a new lesson each week.

"We learn like going out of the way to help other people..how to dress for the right occasion," one student says.

"How to tuck in my shirt and stuff..how to put on a tie. We learn a lot," another student says.

From proper hygiene to attitude, these young men are learning it all... and they are taking it seriously.

10-year-old Cameron Roberts says, "You should be doing your school work instead of messing around because education is everything, education is power."

These students have six weeks left, but Kevin and Adam are hoping to take the program beyond the Cedar Valley, turning more boys into young gentlemen.
