"Making Life Swyter"

Posted: Updated:

People from the Cedar Valley, Iowa City, Cedar Rapids and all over Eastern Iowa being touched by random acts of kindness.

The chain of good deeds starting in honor of 21-year-old Tyler Swyter, who took his life one year ago this month.

Swyter was a Waterloo native and West High graduate.

"Him. His smile. His hugs. He gave the best hugs. Just having him around. Not talking to him every day," said Karen Schatz. Tyler's mother.

Family and friends heart broken, but using that pain as a driving force to show others, "You are appreciated." "You have worth."

In Swyter's name, "Making Life Swyter."

"He always made others feel special about themselves," said Schatz.

Dozens doing the same, Tuesday, delivering treats or small gifts to emergency responders, co-workers, and strangers; post after post showing the wave of kindness.

One story saying, "I believe I received the greater gift."

An anonymous person buying dozens of Scratch Cupcakes, Tyler Swyter's favorite, for unsuspecting customers.

"We actually had a couple people cry; tear up. They loved it. It is a really good feeling to get to be a part of that," said Scratch Cupcakery Assistant Manager Megan Bergam.

Each act of kindness done in the name of "Making Life Swyter," in the hopes the next person will carry it on.
