One year after murder in Dubuque, victim's girlfriend looking for closure

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Today marks one year since Dubuque's 5th homicide of 2015--a case that has still yet to see anyone charged with the murder.

Police say 21-year-old James "Jimmy" Richardson was shot and killed in the 700 block of Rhomberg Avenue last year.

They say Richardson most likely knew the person or people who shot him, but they've had very little cooperation in their investigation.

Richardson's girlfriend at the time, Shelby Johnson, hopes that will change soon.

She says not a day goes by that she doesn't think about Jimmy.

"It's tough, everyday I think about it. I don't ever go away. It probably won't ever go away," she said.

Richardson's son was just seven months old at the time.  He'll never really know his father.

"His son has to go his whole life without his dad. He wanted to show his son a lot of things. He was a boxer, and he wanted his son to be a boxer, so I have to make sure that happens for him," Johnson said.

Johnson and those who knew Richardson are now pleading for anyone with information to come forward.

"I know a lot of people have to know. There we're multiple people up there, so I don't get why none of you have said anything," she said.

Dubuque Police Lt. Scott Baxter said they have arrested one suspect on other warrants, and are looking into another suspect.

He says, "This is still a very active investigation."
