Old Bible found by college student

For probably half a century, a copy of one of the most historically significant Bibles ever published sat forgotten in the basement of an Oregon college.

That was until a curious history major at Lewis and Clark College opened a box and discovered the 1599 Geneva Bible.

The rare scripture is the same Bible used by Queen Elizabeth I, William Shakespeare and the Mayflower pilgrims.

The book is heavy and tattered, but the beauty is in the details like the smudges, the browned pages, and the carefully drawn maps.

It's not clear who first opened the book, although it has been traced back to a 19th Century English Bible collector.

"It's the strangest thing," says Sam Bussan, student who found the old Bible. "But it's almost a religious experience or the closet thing to a religious experience that I've had as a not very religious person."
