Construction of Dubuque's first mosque nears completion

Posted: Updated:

The construction of Dubuque's first mosque is nearing completion.

The Telegraph Herald reports that the mosque could be completed within the month. Tri-State Islamic Center president Rami Eltibi says workers installed the structure's dome last week. Some work on the building's interior remains, and a new parking lot will be added.

Adib Kassas, head of the mosque's advisory committee, says the goal is to occupy it by the end of October. The mosque will primarily be used as a place of worship, but will also serve as a gathering place for the Muslim community.

Center officials also hope to educate the public about Islam.

The total cost of the project, including the land the structure sits on, is about $800,000. Kassas says $750,000 of those funds has been raised.
