Authorities: Iowa sex offender on run, arrested in Florida

Posted: Updated:

An Iowa sex offender who authorities say was on the run, has been caught and arrested in the state of Florida.

On March 28th, 35-year-old Randy Allen Eschen, a convicted sex offender of Oelwein, was charged with two counts of Sexual Abuse 3rd Degree. A few months later, he was granted pre-trial release with the use of a GPS monitoring device.

On July 11th, authorities were notified that the GPS monitoring device was deactivated and the device was found at a residence where Eschen was staying. An arrest warrant was issued.

Through investigation, it was learned that Eschen had fled the area and possibly the state, eluding felony prosecution.

As a result of the joint investigation efforts between the Oelwein Police Department and the United States Marshals Service, Eschen was caught and arrested in Cocoa, Brevard County, Florida on September 22, 2016.

This investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.

The Oelwein Police Department was assisted in this investigation by the United States Marshals Service, Northern District of Iowa, and the United States Marshals Service Middle District of Florida.
