Volunteers still needed for Iowa flooding cleanup

Posted: Updated:

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- With floodwaters receding, Iowa officials say there is still a need for volunteers to help with flood cleanup.

The Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service says volunteers were critical to many Iowa cities and communities to minimize flooding damage. But the group says more help is needed to remove sandbags, clean up where flooding did hit and other chores.

Volunteer centers in the affected areas have coordinated efforts in place with the city, county and emergency management departments to help make sure volunteers are safe and able to respond quickly and efficiently.

Volunteers across the state can help by first contacting their local volunteer center, or by visiting http://volunteeriowa.galaxydigital.com/disaster/ . A list of local volunteer centers can also be found at https://www.volunteeriowa.org/volunteercentersiowa .
