Flooding leaves Iowa farmers in a tough spot

Posted: Updated:

Flooding is leaving a big mess in many Iowa fields.

One Butler County farmer says he still has 6 inches of standing water in some of his fields.

Iowa's agriculture secretary says with low commodity prices, producers need every bushel they can get.

"The thing as a farmer, this is the time of year you want to get your crops, but you're holding off because who knows what October will bring. You kind of get used to it, but it's a little tiring," said Curt Sherman.

Iowa has 23 million acres of corn and soybeans.

All farmers with flooded fields can do now is wait for the water to go down to see if their crops can be salvaged.
