Hawks' VandeBerg out indefinitely

Posted: Updated:

The Iowa Hawkeyes will be without one of their top offensive players this weekend when they take the field for homecoming this weekend against Northwestern.

The Hawks leading receiver Matt VandeBerg injured his foot yesterday in practice and he is out indefinitely.

Matt VandeBerg who is in senior season----led all Iowa Hawkeye receivers with 19 catches for 284 yards and three touchdowns in the first four games.

The loss of VandeBerg leaves a huge void in a receiving corps that is very short on experience.

Today coach Kirk Ferentz and CJ Beathard talked about the loss of VandeBerg

Ferentz said, "Matt works hard all the time. He's one of those guys you have to pull back, and he's actually been fighting some injuries over the last couple weeks, but he's got a great attitude, been working hard, and this one is totally unrelated, but there are no guarantees. It's kind of like life. But the good news is he's got a great attitude. He was great this morning, and that's a starting point for any kind of recovery."

C.J. Beathard said, "He's a tough guy to replace but a good thing is he is good leader on the team and like James says he can lead on and off the field and he will still be there ant practice to lead the receivers be more of a coaches role at this point."

Hawks host Northwestern Saturday morning at 11 at Kinnick.
