Red Cross handing out clean up kits in Waterloo and Cedar Falls

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

The Cedar River is gradually falling in Cedar Falls and Waterloo, and now the focus is starting to shift to clean up.

The Red Cross is now handing out clean up kits at two locations: Fire Station #1 in Waterloo at 425 E. 3rd St, and the Living Water Church on West Lone St. in Cedar Falls.

The kits include a broom, mop, squeegee, and other essentials you'll need to clean up after the waters recede.

They say it's important to clean up as soon as possible.

"Really important with flood water to get in, get it cleaned up, washed out as quickly as you can. What you don't want is to have mold to start to get into your home," said volunteer Joe Vich.

Those kits are free.

"These are all free, no questions asked, we just want to help folks get back in their homes if they can, as quickly as possible," he said.

If you'd like to help out those dealing with damage, you can also text "REDCROSS" to 90999 to donate $10. That money will be added to your phone bill.
