Wapsi River in Anamosa rising, expected crest Wednesday

ANAMOSA (KWWL) -

In Anamosa, several roads are closed because of the rising Wapsi River.

A stretch of Lead Mine Road which runs next to the river is covered in water, but it's not the only sign of flooding in Anamosa.

Water is also rising at the Wapsipinicon State Park, in particular the golf course. Holes number three and four are flooded. However, this didn't keep golfers from swinging a few rounds.

Over on the other side of the river people nearby are preparing.

A home is surrounded by a barrier made of cement blocks -- 30 huge blocks. "Well, the guys come in with skid loaders and loaded up these cement block forms and loaded them up together. It's got a very special plastic, so it should hold the water back," said Carolyn Vernon.

This time around, Vernon is getting ready for the worse especially after the 2008 flood. "Sorted a lot of things out, and packed up things so if people have to come in again, it's all ready for them to carry upstairs," she said.

The Wapsi River will crest Wednesday morning. It's expected to fall below flood stage on Saturday.
