Flood preps and evacuations plans for Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

The Cedar River in Cedar Rapids is expected to crest at 23 feet Tuesday morning around 7 a.m.  It will be around 16 feet by Monday morning, making it major flood stage.

Crews are beginning to wrap Hesco barrier walls for structural support, as they work around the clock.  Three sandbagging sites are also open 24 hours.  They are located at the former Kmart West site at 16th Avenue and Williams Blvd. SW, Hawkeye Downs, and Ellis Park Pavilion.

Garbage, recycling, and yard waste will not be collected next week in evacuation areas.  Those being asked to evacuate are asked to do so by 8 p.m. tonight.  A map of evacuation areas can be seen here.  

A curfew is also in place for those neighborhoods, beginning at 8 p.m. until 7 a.m. until further notice.  Police will be patrolling the area, along with the Iowa National Guard.
