UPDATE: Evacuations in some areas of Cedar Rapids to start tomorrow night

UPDATE (12:18 p.m.): Cedar Rapids officials say it will activate the city's Incident Command Team at 7 a.m. tomorrow morning, and the crew will be on hand 24 hours a day to respond to people in need of help throughout the flooding event.

The National Guard has also been requested and will be available around the evacuation area in Cedar Rapids. See the map below for an outline of the area being evacuated tomorrow night. 

Officials also say some businesses in downtown Cedar Rapids will need to close beginning Monday until roads into the area are able to open again. As flood waters recede, emergency crews will search the area will be searched for damage and cleared as needed. Officials are warning people in the evacuation area that they should plan to be out of their homes and businesses for up to seven days.

ORIGINAL STORY: During a news conference this morning, the City of Cedar Rapids announces that some areas bordering the Cedar River will be evacuated due to flooding.

Evacuations will begin at 8:00 p.m. tomorrow night for the affected areas. An 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. curfew will also be implemented in the evacuated areas.
